Summary of the Activity

The two-day activity was organized as part of the SDG Week celebrations, focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 15 – Life on Land. The initiative aimed to create awareness about biodiversity conservation, wildlife protection, and the importance of sustainable coexistence between humans and nature. On Day 1, an SDG Week stall was set up on Garden Street, where students actively engaged with visitors. On Day 2, a guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Ravi Chellam, focusing on the concept of co-existence and the growing challenges faced by urban biodiversity.

Highlights of the Activity

The session began with a clear explanation of forests and their significance as complex ecosystems that support biodiversity. Dr. Ravi Chellam discussed wildlife conservation, emphasizing the urgent need to protect endangered species. The talk highlighted how human encroachment, including deforestation and industrial activities, has severely impacted ecosystems. Real-world examples showed how animals are losing their natural habitats, leading to human-wildlife conflict, and encouraged students to reflect on sustainable urban planning.
