The Centre for Peace Praxis organized a two-day Capacity Building Workshop on Psychosocial Support in Emergencies on the 2nd and 3rd of February 2024. The workshop was facilitated by renowned mental health professionals Dr. Patrick Jude Lucas and Dr. Veenashree Rajesh, and brought together participants from diverse backgrounds committed to supporting individuals and communities in times of crisis.
Over the course of two intensive days, participants were equipped with practical tools, frameworks, and techniques essential for delivering psychosocial support in emergency contexts such as natural disasters, conflict zones, and humanitarian crises. The sessions were a balanced blend of theory and experiential learning, including role-plays, case studies, group activities, and reflective exercises.
Dr. Patrick and Dr. Veenashree shared their rich experiences from the field, offering valuable insights into trauma-informed care, cultural sensitivity, and resilience-building. Their facilitation created a safe and engaging space for participants to explore complex emotional and ethical dimensions of emergency response work.
The workshop concluded with a group reflection and action planning session, where participants expressed a renewed sense of confidence and preparedness. This initiative reflects the Centre’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community capacities for compassionate, timely, and effective psychosocial interventions in times of crisis.
